View and comment on-line
You can view and object to the proposals on-line using Newcastle City Council’s Public Access Planning website:
To make a comment or objection click on the button marked “Make a comment” on the right hand side. You will need to register first.
Visit Issues for some ideas of what you may want to include in your objection letter.
Objection letter
This is a very simple objection letter, which you can use as a basis to write your own letter of objection to the council. Please personalise your letter to include the concerns that you feel most strongly about – a space has been left for you to do so. For ideas of issues that you might want to raise visit the issues page on this site.
You could print out a few of these letters and give them to neighbours and friends to complete.
Petition
You can print out this petition and collect signatures of people opposed to the development. You could ask your local shop keepers if they would be happy to collect signatures from their customers. Many local shop owners are opposed to the development. Please email info@stopfenhamtesco.co.uk for details of where to return the completed form.
Posters and Leaflets
Put the poster in your window or ask the local shopkeeper if they would be happy to put one in theirs. Click on the image to download.
You can find more posters and leaflets to download from the following page:
Presentation to council meeting
Two people were given the opportunity to speak against the application at the council’s development control meeting on 27 February 2009: a local resident and an agent of the Co-operative food store. The applicants declined the offer to speak at the meeting.

Old Objection letters
Please note that these letters were written in September 2008 in response to the initial application, they will need updating to respond to the current application. In particular you need to make sure you use the new reference: 2010/0875/01/OUT.
You can use these letters as a basis to write your own letter of objection to send to the council. Please personalise your letter to include the concerns that you feel most strongly about – a space has been left for you to do so. For ideas of issues that you might want to raise visit the issues page on this site.
Here are two model objection letters. Both are available in MS Word format or as a PDF. The first is more detailed:
The second has more space for your own comments:

Benwell Scotswood Area Action Plan
The development of the Newcastle General Hospital site is included in the Benwell Scotswood Area Action Plan (though it does seem odd the way it has been tacked on to that area of Newcastle).
You can download the plan and related documents from the council’s website at:
Tescopoly
You can find details of the many campaigns against Tesco across the country along with lots of other resources on the Tescopoly website.
